How it works

The wellsite modem initiates the connection to the server. The server receives and processes the data and presents it in the production engineer's web UI.

  1. A system modem is installed in the ESP control panel.
  2. The VSD must have an RS-485 (RS-232) SCADA port and speak Modbus.
  3. For wellhead / Christmas-tree pressures, motor-lead pressure and motor temperature, use pressure transmitters with RS-485 or RS-232 and Modbus. Motor pressure and temperature are taken from the standard downhole sensor (TMS) when it is fitted.
  4. The site needs cellular coverage, proper grounding, and 220 V 50 Hz supply.
  5. Modem-to-VSD (transmitter) cable up to 50 m with solid grounding. Length depends on noise from a VSD. A DOL or soft-starter panel may allow a longer run.
  6. One modem can serve several stations and transmitters within 50 m of shared bus. The poll cycle increases with the number of devices.
  7. The modem connects to the ESP-Forum SCADA server over the cellular carrier network.
  8. The server polls the equipment and displays the parameters in the web UI.
  9. The user opens the web UI to read data or control the ESP.
